Economically non-active
You are economically non-active as an EU/EEA national if you are about to become a student, you are going to retire or you are a pensioner.
Certain conditions apply.
Students
Conditions
- You are registered with an educational establishment;
- You have health insurance;
- You have sufficient means of support;
- You are willing to sign an antecedents declaration at the Aliens Department.
Documents
In order to demonstrate that you satisfy the conditions, you will need to present the following documents:
- A valid document for crossing the border (passport or identity card);
- A declaration signed by yourself or your parents stating that you have sufficient means of support;
- Certificate of registration at educational establishment;
- Signed antecedents declaration.
Other economically non-active persons
Conditions
- You have health insurance;
- You have sufficient means of support. This means at the very least the national benefit level applicable to you;
- You are willing to sign an antecedents declaration at the Aliens Department.
Documents
In order to demonstrate that you satisfy the conditions, you will need to present the following documents:
- A valid document for crossing the border (passport or identity card);
- Proof of income;
- Signed antecedents declaration.
Migration information for non-EU citizens
Your situation
You want to study in the Netherlands for a period of longer than 3 months. You come from a country where you are required to have an MVV (visa). For you, the "Study" and the MVV procedures are relevant. You will find a description of your procedures on this and the following pages.
Study
Maastricht University has its own Visa Office to help you with the visa and residence permit procedure.
You may pursue a course of study in the Netherlands if you satisfy the conditions. As a student you are a temporary resident. This means that you must leave the Netherlands once you have completed your course. On the following pages you can check which conditions are applicable to you and which documents you will require.
Conditions
You satisfy the following conditions:
- You are pursuing a course of study at a recognised educational establishment in the Netherlands;
- You have sufficient means of support for the academic year (please refer to the frequently asked questions: "What are the standard amounts for students?");
- You sign a declaration of cognisance at the Aliens Department;
- You sign an antecedents declaration at the Aliens Department.
Documents
The following documents are required for the application:
- Valid passport (copy);
- 4 colour photos;
- (Temporary) certificate of registration at educational establishment;
- Proof of sufficient means of support.
